Design Happy has created the new Packaging & Branding for the artisan food company Somerset Soups.

We originally approached the West Country based Somerset Soups in 2012 with a range of concepts to show them a 'what if?' design on their delicious range of fresh seasonal soups. The ingredients in the soups were unique as they were locally sourced from an old Victorian Secret Garden in Somerset and then cooked fresh daily to sell at the local farmers markets.

The new packaging design draws inspiration from the 'Secret Garden' as well as the 'Freshly Picked' aspects, with hidden illustrations within a roundel device which creates the brand marque. The design also needed to retain the 'Handmade' feel and not alienate it away from the local farmers markets where it already had a big customer base. The Somerset Soups Market Stall used old chalk boards for the daily ingredients, so we gave a nod to this with the rubbed out chalk vegetable illustrations as a background detail.

The new delicious range includes Chilli & Red Lentil, Thai Lentil, Spiced Parsnip and Potato & Rocket and first appeared in 2012. Since then, the company has grown to supply a number of large shops and deli's whilst moving into their own catering space in 2013. We are extremely proud to have been involved with the growth of the company from their humble beginnings, with the soups now selling faster than they can be produced.
